Just to update: got a PM from "ihaveadollar". He says he's got the same flickering problem but it stopped once he upgraded to a new graphics card and was able to switch to "vulkan". So it must be a bug or an issue related to OpenGl in that game.

Okay it's working now! Downloaded the new build rpcs3-v0.0.3-2017-08-01-b3968261 and the default setting at least for the PPU, has changed from interpreter (fast) to Recompiler (LLVM). In the past, if I selected Recompiler (LLVM) manually it would have a constant barrage of popup windows saying "compiling ppu module". Silly me, I thought it would go on forever so I figured something was wrong. However today I let it finish and the game booted and would you know, no more black flickering!

Weird the latest update right now (rpcs3-v0.0.4-2018-01-01-198e9dce_win64) the face buttons on xinput does not work. On the main menu, I can scroll up and down with the d-pad but can't select any mode with the x button. Booted a different game right before (Dragon's Crown) and another game right after (Tekken Tag) and both worked fine. So it was only SSF2THD.

Thank you for verifying that it wasn't just me. I've just ran v0.0.4-7425 (83b541e) Alpha [2018-01-02] to test it once more and the same thing again. Definitely a regression bug.

The face buttons still don't work on rpcs3-v0.0.4-2018-01-06-d770a423_win64. I request the status be changed from playable to in-game until this bug gets sorted out.

Can also confirm that cross, square, triangle and circle DON'T work.
They don't work in both Xinput and MMJoystick, it only seems to work on keyboard (can't test DS4 cause I don't have one).

tried with both pad and keyboard, face buttons are not working.

Update: works pretty well with rpcs3-v0.0.4-2018-01-14-d5c879e-9532_linux64.AppImage (face buttons with pad are working),
just need to limit frames to 60fps, audio is just a little choppy.
Out of topic question: can I upload gameplay videos of PS3 games on YT or will my channel be shut down ?
